Alexander Volkanovski Eyes Rematch with Max Holloway Under One Condition
The Struggle and Recent Setbacks
Former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been enduring a challenging phase in his illustrious career. The 35-year-old Australian faced consecutive defeats in his recent title fights, succumbing to knockouts against Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria. It remains uncertain who Volkanovski will face next following these tough losses.
Championship Reign and Loss
Volkanovski had previously defended his featherweight title five times before losing it to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 in February. During his reign as champion, Volkanovski managed to secure victories over several top-ranked UFC stars, including Max Holloway.
Setting the Stage for a Fourth Fight
Expressing his intentions earlier this week, Volkanovski mentioned his desire to fight again by the end of the year. He remains open to a fourth bout with Max Holloway, but stipulated that the BMF title must be on the line.
“Would I fight him (Holloway) again? Yes, now that he has the BMF title, perhaps we should have another go. I’ve been contemplating how to approach a fourth fight. Although I lead 3-0, it’s hard to get out of bed for a fourth one. But now, with the BMF title in play, maybe we can do it again. We’ll see what happens,” Volkanovski remarked.

Holloway’s Recent Triumphs
Max Holloway, on the other hand, is coming off a spectacular knockout victory over top-ranked lightweight Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 last month. Prior to the Gaethje fight, Holloway defeated The Korean Zombie via knockout at UFC Fight Night 225. Holloway has repeatedly expressed his interest in facing Ilia Topuria next.
